Many photographers are very hesitant to share the locations of their shoots with others, especially when they are especially beautiful and idyllic. Photographers have been asked where they have taken certain shots, but some of them don’t want to reveal this particular detail.
A lot of time and effort goes into looking for the perfect location for a shoot, so it is therefore somewhat understandable that a photographer might not want to tell other people where they took certain photos.
One of the primary reasons that a lot of photographers don’t like to share their most secret locations is because they are afraid that they will be destroyed with an increase in foot and vehicle traffic, which is definitely a valid point. When a famous photographer discloses to the public where they took certain breathtaking photos, chances are there will be a significant increase in visitors to that place.
Some photographers just want their top secret shooting locations to say secret and well-preserved, which is certainly not too much to ask.
Another reason why many photographers don’t want to share their top secret locations is because there can be serious business repercussions. Business that get swamped with photographers might eventually decide to prevent photographers from visiting the area or they might start charging every time they shoot.
This is not an uncommon scenario at all, as it is has happened numerous times in the past. Certain businesses that get a lot of people visiting an area as the result of a photographer bragging about their great new location have to take on a lot of liability because of the potential for someone who visits to sue if they get injured while on the property.
It is important for photographers to carefully consider the consequences of their actions before revealing a top secret location to the public. While many photographers and travelers alike want to know about many of these areas for obvious reasons, sometimes it just isn’t a good idea.
While some people may view this as being selfish, the fact is that photographers usually have numerous good reasons for not disclosing certain locations. There are many beautiful areas around the world with breathtaking scenery, and a lot of them aren’t found in any travel book/guide.
Many photographers know that scouting for locations is a very important part of their job, and it requires a lot of time and effort. It is therefore understandable that a photographer who discovers a great new location might not want to share it with everyone else, and not just for selfish reasons.
The fact is that some secluded areas with delicate ecosystems are better left isolated for the most part, and kept away from the intrusiveness of tourists and dozens if not hundreds of photographers. One person in a given area usually doesn’t do that much damage, but it is a different story entirely when you introduce hundreds or thousands of people who are coming to visit that location to photograph it as well.
When most landscape photographers find a nice secluded area to take pictures, they typically choose to keep them a secret for a number of reasons. While this may not be a popular decision with everyone, it is justified in many different ways.
